Isle Royale wolves and moose

I was sent a link to a very interesting site today, dedicated to the study of the wolf and moose population on Isle Royale. For those of you not familiar with Michigan’s UP area - this is an island on the western end of Lake Superior. There are some facinating photo essays on this site, documenting the predator/prey relationship on this island, as well as predator rivalry. Take a look here.

I have never been to Isle Royale, have wanted to… even for diving - there are some nice shipwrecks up there - crystal clear water - and it would be great to spend a little time observing wolves and a few moose.   I have so much admiration for the people who dedicate a majority of their lives in the study of wildlife and promoting education about them.  The more people we have like this, the less misunderstanding and unfounded fear we will have.

great link- I have a book on the Wolves of Isle Royale and their relationship with the moose there.. a place I too would love to visit someday. The only place I have seen and heard wolves in the wild is the U.P.. a sound I will always hold in my heart.

oh, and I have a Tshirt from way back in the 80’s when they reintroduced a population of Moose in the Western UP.. it says ‘the Moose is Loose in the UP’ and shows a cartoonish bullwinkle type moose holding up a beer can. Go figgure eh? ;)
