Winter landscapes
by Mark ~ February 11th, 2010. Filed under: Michigan, landscape, nature photography. At a bit of loss for words lately folks, so just a photo to share… a bit different from the one I posted before. I am sure this landscape doesn’t even exist anymore, which is a pretty cool aspect of shooting these icescapes. It makes you appreciate the moment even more when the light is happening with some interesting subject matter in front of you.

Hey Mark
Oh yeah, I like this a lot. Very nicely done.
HDR or a GND?
Cheers

Hey Carl, I like that you have to ask.
Thanks!!!

This is also great image but I prefer the vertical, that is stunning. It seems to be a bit hectic time of year now – a lot of work, no time for visiting blogs and sharing thought. I’m in the same situation.

Mark, I’d have a hard time picking between this one and the vertical one, both are excellent!
I guess I never thought about these particular icescapes photos being so unique. Very cool!

Another excellent shot of an amazing scene! As you point out, this surely isn’t there anymore. The transitory nature of ice makes it a really interesting subject. I’d like to see more…

Absolutely incredible!
Images such as these almost makes me want to get out up there in your cold weather. This southern boy would need mega-multiple layers on though!

C’mon up Michael – we’ll take along a firepit just for you.

Well Mark, I’m not so sure that even a fire pit would help to be honest with you.
The older I get, … well, … that chilly “wuss” factor comes in to play! : )

Thanks folks! Appreciate it a lot.
Dick B; yes, I am in Michigan, about 30 minutes drive from this spot, so it makes it easy to roll out of the bed in the morning and head straight back to warm up.

Thanks Amber. I agree, they do seem to resemble some fantasy world.

Hello Mark.
This is one fine piece!
I love looking at ice floating in the water, especially the depth they have as you see how big they are underneath the surface.
On the southern coast of Norway there is so much ice these days.
At some islands where people are dependent upon ferries to transport them to their work/school on the mainland, the ferries have to go all night long to keep the ice from solid chrystallization.
Can`t wait to get down there to see for myself and maybe get some interesting photos as well
Fantastic icescape, Mark.
Take care.
Best Wishes

That must have been a wonderful moment, too, apart from that the result from it became a lovely photograph. These latitudes have their upsides.

Thank you Ove. I wouldn’t mind some tropical photographs now though.
