Winter wonderland

by Mark ~ February 24th, 2010. Filed under: Michigan, art, artistry, landscape, nature photography, processing.

Just a test of my Wordpress iPhone app that allows me to make quick posts from my phone. I took this photo just 30 minutes ago and did all processing on my iPhone using the Best Camera app and Photoshop Mobile. Sometimes the best camera (and computer as well) IS the one you have with you.

EDIT; now that I have had the chance to look at this on a real computer, I saw I needed to shrink the image size a bit.   While not up to the quality I am used to with my DSLRs, going through this type of exercise certainly can help spark some creative thoughts when it comes time to work with other images.   It was just for fun and a test anyway.

I’ve used the Wordpress app a few times. I mainly use it to reply to comments I’ve received on one of my posts. I also use it to record some idea or words I may have at the time. It doesn’t crash on me and I will not use it for serious stuff.
    Great image!

It does seem to be a good tool for monitoring comments Monte.

Mark, interesting image…kind of a “dream” image. I like it. For the web almost any camera can produce interesting/good images. However, as you know, it’s a different story when/if the printing starts. ;-)

I know what you mean. To be honest I am even nervous posting from my phone. I will have to look at it later on on my desktop.

I really like this image, Mark. The composition, the light, the post-processing, even the border, ale together makes a nice dreamy winter image. I only wonder what are those “ghosts” around trunks? Is it a blur?

I like this image a lot – I’m amazed you did everything from your phone, including post processing. I’m sure there will be many improvements in this kind of capability going forward. Perhaps at some point we’ll look back with a wry grin on those days where we had to lug around dslrs and lenses.

15 years ago when I worked in the computer industry, media convergence was all the rage. Back then it was a dream, but now I’m starting to believe it is almost upon us…

I like this photo, too. Those are some interesting halos around the trees. Was that there when you took the photo or as a result of post processing?

Thanks again folks. The halos around the trees are the result of using the soft focus slider in the iPhone Photoshop Mobile. Kind of interesting to use on the iPhone, you drag your finger across the screen to change the degree of blurriness. I was trying to get somewhat of multiple exposure look to it, this is about as close as I could get it.

Above anything, I really liked the touch interaction with the image. I can really see this method being the future of image processing.

That is pretty sweet you did this from your iphone. Would you recommend the app?

Best Camera is pretty fun to play with, so yeah, I would recommend it. And Photoshop Mobile is free, so a no brainer recommendation there.

thats really cool Mark – I’m getting an iphone when my bf upgrades (his cast off but its free!) and I cant wait to have access to all this great techno integration :) I have been taking a lot of photos on his phone and love the best camera app but never remember to get them off and upload them to my site.

Hi just came across your blog and been browsing around some of your entries and just wondering why you chose a Wordpress blog dont you find it difficult to do anything with? Been thinking about starting one.

Parker, actually I find Wordpress quite simple to use. The behind the scenes administrative interface is first class.

A great and luscious image no matter what camera! Fantastic feel and compo. I bought Jarvis’ book on this topic, looks like I should buy a copy for myself!
